Derek started his career at Ogilvy & Mather Direct in London, before moving to Ogilvy & Mather and then to Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH), where he became Managing Director. Under his leadership, BBH twice won Campaign magazine’s Agency of the Year award. In 2004, Derek was voted one of the 40 most influential men under 40 by Esquire UK.
He joined Goodby Silverstein & Partners (GS&P) in 2006 as a Managing Partner, and was named President in 2017. Under his stewardship, the agency became an industry front-runner in narrowing the gender gap in leadership, and won multiple Agency of the Year awards from Adweek, Ad Age, and Fast Company as well as Cannes most awarded digital agency. Derek then left advertising to become the Global CEO of the global design firm IDEO where he restructured the company to prepare it for the future.
Derek has two daughters and two cats, and in his spare time, supports Derby County Football Club, and likes to run long distances very, very slowly.
