Before taking on the role of CEO, Mike helped grow IDEO’s global presence, co-founded the Tokyo studio, and launched D4V, Japan’s first early-stage design-focused venture fund. He became a Partner in 2017 and was appointed to the board of IDEO.org in 2020, a role he continues to hold.
While Mike was away from IDEO, he served as Chief Creative Officer at Moon Creative Lab, a venture studio that powers the creation of new businesses for Mitsui & Co. There, Mike guided the development of new ventures and led Moon Media, a storytelling initiative exploring creativity and entrepreneurship through film.
As a committed educator, Mike has taught at esteemed institutions including Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design (CIID), New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, and The University of Tokyo. He holds a degree in cognitive neuroscience from the University of California, Berkeley.
